Ocean View

HDR 1782 B Ocean View

I took this photo at Point Addis last week near the start of The Great Ocean road. It was one of those rare moments that happens on a dull day when the sun is able to shine through the clouds enough to brighten and enliven the scene, fortunately I was able to set up the camera in time to capture the event. So be ready for any opportunity the comes along even when it is least expected.

Natural Cycles

1440 03B Natural Cycles

The photo of a fallen leaf caught in the fronds of a grass tree shows us but a moment of its life cycle. Sometimes our lives can appear to be on hold just like the leaf suspended just above the ground. Given time, the cycle will be completed and the leaf will fall to earth where it will return nutrients to the soil for the cycle to come to completion. So if your plans appear to be on hold it is only a matter of time before things will start to take their natural course again like the cycles in the natural world.

Water Dance

1573 01B Water Dance

Cooperation of natures elements such as light, water and wind helped to create this abstract image. The sun came out from behind the clouds, the clear water in the tidal pool flowed over the sand and the slight breeze created the ripples reflecting and refracting the sunlight. This image has caught but a moment in time of the of the ripples dancing on the pools surface creating never ending abstract patterns.

This image influences my thoughts in contradictory ways depending on how I’m feeling, sometimes I feel energized by the photo and other times I feel calm and relaxed losing myself in the myriad of patterns.

Please let me know, how does this image affects you?

Natures Bonsai

5163 01A Natures Bonsai

High on the cliffs above the sea a group of trees and small plants manage to thrive against all odds, they struggle with the salt laden air, under nourished earth and rocks and regularly face wind and water erosion yet they struggle on with great tenacity and courage.

Tranquility

4757 03B Tranquility

Sometimes when we visit a place it’s atmosphere can influence and change our mood. The small secluded lake shown in the photograph puts me in a very tranquil frame of mind every time I visit it. The lake and its surroundings are a very pleasant place to sit, reflect and contemplate with only the sounds of nature such birds calling or wind rustling the trees softly. I hope you enjoy the photo and find it helps to bring the same peace and tranquillity for you.

Creative visual exercise

4347 01B Creative visual exercise

As a child I used to lay in the grass staring at clouds to try and find recognizable shapes such as faces and animals etc. It was an enjoyable game that I and my friends played after school.

These days I use the same visualization technique to find appealing abstract shapes and designs in Nature. One place where it is easy to find these shapes and patterns are the rugged cliffs along the coast where weather and waves have combined to expose the patterns that would normally be hidden deep within the core of the rocks.

Next time you are at the seaside try looking for patterns, texture and contrasting colours in the rocks, sand and surroundings. Look for formations that you find appealing they do not need to represent anything in particular and may be quite abstract. This visual exercise helps to heighten your perception of the surroundings and also develops and stimulates your creativity. It could be a made into a fun game where the family joins in and everyone reaps the benefits.

Rainbows

5818 01B Rainbows

Most of us have been touched by the beauty of a rainbow at sometime in our lives. It is not always easy or convenient to stop and enjoy the visual feast that a rainbow provides which lasts only a few minutes, usually at the beginning or end of a storm. On the day that I took this photo I was heading toward the Brisbane Ranges national park about an hours drive from my home, the weather report stated that it was going to be showers and I hoped to take some photo’s of wildflowers with rain drops on their petals.

While driving to the national park the sun broke free of the clouds creating the rainbow in the distance. I pulled the car over to the side of the road to photograph one of natures most beautiful displays. This particular rainbow lasted several minutes which gave me the time to photograph it and enjoy the intense colours against the blue sky until it finally faded away.

Nature sometimes provides opportunities to view it’s beauty, we should grab hold of these opportunities and enjoy the moment whenever it occurs as they can sometimes disappear as quickly and unexpectedly as they appeared. By taking the time to enjoy the experience we are left with fond memories and a feeling of connection to nature and environment.

Natures Splendid Colours

3414 A Natures Splendid Colours

One of the things that I enjoy the most about nature is the vast amount of colours that occur in wildflowers. During a recent trip to the Grampians I came across a patch of Blue Tinsel lilies on the side of a road and stopped to capture some photographs of the beautiful mauve and yellow coloured flowers. My photographs of these and many other wildflowers are reminders of the importance of our natural environment and it’s beauty even though I am far away from these places.

What reminders do you have of natures beauty in your home?

Poem Titled: Being

Here is a new poem inspired from my painting “Being”

www.awakeningdreams.com poem from the painting titled Being

The centre of ourselves as we really are,

is as bright as the light of a brilliant star.

Enmeshed in the worlds that come from within,

lost from our centre amidst all the din.

Then awake once more to the truth of our being,

we settle in the silence at the centre of our scene.
